You have ADHD.

You are painfully aware you have ADHD.

You struggle daily to make your ADHD as hidden as possible.

People without ADHD will often help you to see your ADHD struggles.

You may feel “less than” around them.

Let’s move the conversation from a finger-pointing tit-for-tat to mutual respect for your differences and individual strengths. Mutual respect is paramount for everyone involved to feel a true sense of belonging. ADHD symptoms are often misconstrued as character flaws by the non-ADHD tribe. Everyone is flawed in one way or another; it’s just that their non-ADHD flaws may be slightly more socially acceptable.

When thinking about whatever trait makes you feel “less than”, stop fighting something that is you. Accept it and move on. I know I’m messy and I organize with piles. I am also creative, spontaneous, fun, make people laugh, keep discount orchids alive for years on end, and create solutions that exist outside the box.

As a member of the tribe of humans with ADHD, you bring a unique perspective to all your relationships. Don’t devalue yourself because of one or two “negative” traits. Let your authentic self shine in the places and situations you feel safe.
